The Ultimate Coaching Cognition Review

What is Coaching Cognition?

This review of Coaching Cognition is my candid perception of the coaching platform and the underlying training program.  During the last two decades coaching has evolved into a separate and distinct discipline from consulting, mentoring or training.  Coaches focus on helping clients face challenges and obstacles with a fresh perspective.  Through self-discovery the client masters decision-making skills, learns to communicate effectively and defines a specific plan of action to which the coach holds the client accountable.

Coaching Cognition is dynamic coaching platform that provides coaching across most niches and specialties.  For example Entrepreneur Coach, Executive Coach, Business Coach, Career Coach, Leadership Coach, Marketing Coach or Wealth Coach.  Other coaches offer more specialized coaching like Musician, Health and Wellness, Life and Personal Development among others.  As an International Coach Federation ACSTH credentialed program the Coaching Cognition coaching platform assures that coaches are trained under the ICF core competencies.

The world is changing at the speed of the internet.

John Kotter, Professor of Leadership, Harvard Business School observed that, “What’s really driving the boom in coaching, is this:  as we move from 30 miles an hour to 70 to 120 to 180……as we go from driving straight down the road to making right turns and left turns to abandoning cars and getting motorcycles…the whole game changes, and a lot of people are trying to keep up, learn how not to fall.”

What does ICF Credentialing mean to Coaching Cognition?

Of the respondents in an ICF Global Consumer Awareness Study  84%  that have been in a coaching relationship expressed that a coaches credentials are important.  For respondents who have never been coached 73% believe in credentialing.  Consumer satisfaction skyrockets to 92% for ICF credentialed coaches because consumers want the security of knowing that they are being coached by a trained and experienced professional.  In a separate study, 52% of coaches reported in the ICF Global Coaching Study that their clients expect to hire coaches who are credentialed.

International Coach Federation, which formed in 1995, is the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession.  With more than 17,000 members in 100 countries ICF sets the professional and ethical standards of coaches, provides independent certification for coaches and coach training programs and has built a worldwide network of credentialed coaches.  Currently there are fewer than 7,000 ICF credentialed coaches worldwide.

According to the ICF website a fully credentialed program:
• Establishes and administers minimum standards for credentialing professional coaches and coach training agencies.
• Assures the public that participating coaches and coach training agencies meet or exceed these minimum standards.
• Reinforces professional coaching as a distinct and self-regulating profession.

What are the Core Competencies of Coaching Cognition Coaches?

These are the 11 ICF core competencies that Coaching Cognition coaches must meet to become certified:

1. Meet Professional Standards
2. Reach Coaching Agreement
3. Establish Trust
4. Access Coaching Presence
5. Listen Actively
6. Question Powerfully
7. Communicate Directly
8. Create Awareness
9. Design Action Plan
10. Guide Goal Setting
11. Maintain Accountability

Cultivating a safe environment where the client is free to take risks and open themselves to look inward for the answers is one of the coach’s primary objectives.  Coaches are charged with engaging the client to brainstorm and explore ideas, challenge assumptions and advocate conflicting assumptions.  Since action is critical to move a client toward their goal, coaches must solicit the commitment from their client to take action toward the plan and hold the client accountable.  Coaching Cognition coaches learn to listen to the client then ask questions to evoke discovery.  As reported in the ICF Global Coaching Study ICF certified coaches are more likely full-time coaches with a larger clientele base and focus on business based coaching like Executive Coaching and Leadership Coaching.

As noted by Fast Company, “Executive coaches are not for the meek. They’re for people who value unambiguous feedback. All coaches have one thing in common, it’s that they are ruthlessly results-oriented.”

What Is Coaching and How Does It Differ?

There are specific differences between a coach, consultant, trainer and mentor.  Each role has a specific function and on occasion they do overlap.  Yes – a coach can train, consult or mentor a client at any given time as long as the coach has specifically asked for and received permission from the client before changing hats.  To get a more in depth understanding of the differences follow this link which describes how Coaching Cognition helps clients understand the differences.

A trainer tells you how to do it.  Just like our teachers in school we learn how from the trainers in our lives.

A consultant tells you what to do.  They are the subject area experts that you hire to do something for you or tell you exactly what you need to do.

A mentor tells you what they did.  When you know someone who has already reached a goal that you have set for yourself that person can share with you the path they took.

A coach listens to you.  Coaches do not have to be an expert in any specific area.  Each client is the expert as it concerns their life and what they want to accomplish.  It is not necessary for a coach to have reached a certain goal.  Each person is on a unique path.  A coach helps the client keep focused on the client’s path – guiding them to stay on course to the client’s objective.

Who Is The Coaching Generation?

With the economic downturn and high unemployment rate people aged 25 to 34 are facing formidable challenges early in their careers.  According to the ICF Global Consumer Awareness Study almost half (47%) are working with a coach to expand their career opportunities.  With  42%  using coaching to improve their leadership and management skills because they see coaching as a means to optimize work performance and improve business strategies.  More than 15,000 individuals in 20 different countries were surveyed which demonstrates that globally young professionals recognize the benefits of coaching.

Want to Become a Coach?

The coaching industry is exploding as more executives, entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals recognize the value that being expertly coached adds to their careers and ultimate success.  Demand is high for certified coaches in all global markets and Coaching Cognition offers a wide variety of specialities and personalities from which clients can choose.

Innovative leaders and managers across all industries are expanding their skill set to include coaching.  Fortune 500 corporations recognize how crucial coaching skills are for key leadership personnel in building and managing powerful teams that work harmoniously toward the corporate vision.  Coaching can be a stand alone career, a complimentary skill to the leadership suite of skills or a hybrid combination of the two.

The training provided by Coaching Cognition is flexible enough to accomodate students from around the world and those individuals with conflicting demands on time and priorities. Each week a new tool or strategy is introduced in the module with examples on how to put the it to immediate use at home or in the office.  Feedback is solicited during the group coaching sessions to share the success of each new skill as implemented.  This process of introducing a new skill, providing examples and practice followed by implementation cements the new concept and provides the building block for the next module.  Coaching Cognition offers a rock solid training program.

Who Leads Coaching Cognition?

Barbara Silva heads up Coaching Cognition and brings over 30 years experience in teaching and coaching experience.  Her focus is to ingrain the coaching mindset into each student that enters the training program.  Barbara is the Coaches Coach providing insight and modeling the ICF core competencies.  She also serves as a mentor for those building their coaching practices by bringing her business experience which she freely shares as she helps each coaching student discover the best way to reach their coaching practice goals.

Coaching Cognition Defines Coaching

Coaching, Consulting, Mentoring
What?  Who?  Which One?

So what is Coaching and How Does it Compare to Consulting and Mentoring?

Coaching Cognition helps answer these questions.

A consultant tells you what to do.

As an expert in a specific subject matter you hire a consultant for that knowledge base.  An example would be employing a software designer to create your website.   You wouldn’t use that same resource to manage your books because you would hire an accountant to guide you on the accounting matters.  Consultants tell you the what, when, where, how and – if you are lucky – why to do something.

A mentor tells you what they did.

A mentor is someone who has already reached an objective that you have set for yourself.  Say you are striving to become a vice president at your company.  One of the vice presidents may take you under their wing and show you the path they followed that got them to the corner office they now inhabit.  The mentor offers advice based upon their experience with the expectation that if you follow the same path you will reach the same target.

A coach listens to you.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching “as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

By honoring the client as the expert of their own life ICF certified coaches believe that each client has within themselves all that is necessary for success.  The coaches’ role is to listen, observe and reflect on what the client shares.  The coach may assist the client through self-discovery to determine what the client truly desires and help the client recognize the skills and resources they already possess to reach their full potential.  A good coach helps the client define their action plan, obtains their commitment and holds them accountable.

This client led partnership allows the client to set the agenda and the pace.  As a sounding board for ideas a coach allows the client to explore all possibilities, alternatives, dilemmas and decisions in a safe environment without judgment.  By challenging beliefs and perceptions a coach helps the client overcome obstacles and gain a fresh perspective.  Coaches provide support and encouragement the client may not have from others in their lives as they pursue their adventure.  Open, honest communication is the responsibility of both parties and provides the strong foundation for the clients’ growth.

“A good listener truly wants to know the speaker.”  John Powell

How To Stop Struggling in Network Marketing

Are you tired of struggling in network marketing?  Tired of failing?  Ready to succeed?

Success is what is attractive in network marketing.  Then to stop struggling in network marketing you must change your frame of mind to become a winner.  You must project yourself as the success now you ultimately want to become.  People will follow anyone who is a success and will never follow someone who is struggling.

Stop Struggling in Network Marketing By NOT ”Trying”

Do you know the first word you use must eliminate from your vocabulary to start enjoying success?  Remember Jedi Master Yoda who said, “Do or do not, there is no try.”  To stop struggling in network marketing you must stop saying that you are “trying” to build a business.”  Why?

How Not to Stop Struggling in Network Marketing

Go ahead and try doing something.  Try to pick up something and see what happens?  You either pick it up or you don’t.  Try standing up and you either stand or remain seated.  Try to clap and you either put your hands together or you don’t.  In life you either do or you don’t.  Try is only an illusion which is why you are still struggling in your network marketing career.

Saying that you are “trying” to build a business allows you to NOT build a business.  It is a weak postured statement that gives you permission to fail without taking responsibility.  It allows you to wallow in your network marketing struggling and receive pity.  And as long as you are not building a business you will never enjoy the success you now desire so strike the word try from your vocabulary.

Stand Up and Stop Struggling in Network Marketing

I challenge you to start saying that you are “building a business and not yet enjoying the success you desire.”  This is a powerful statement that will stop your struggling in network marketing.  It demonstrates that you’re taking responsibility: you are holding yourself accountable for your business and your results.  And people will respond to that, acknowledge your efforts and feel your commitment.  Also, it is imperative that you use the word “and” not but in your declaration.

Granted, this is not easy to do in the beginning and some would rather continue struggling in network marketing.  Leaders like you will find that when you take away your safety net you will raise yourself up to a higher standard.  It almost seems counterintuitive that you must say that you aren’t successful yet in order to become successful and still it is the most critical piece.  Always use the word “yet” when talking about what you haven’t accomplished to date.  Project that you know that it is just a matter of time before it becomes true.

Now Stop Struggling in Network Marketing

You will notice that when you start focusing on success that you will begin to see the success in everything you do.  You will feel an internal shift from this new prospective which will come through in your posture.  And as you appear to yourself and others as a success already, perception readily becomes reality.  Stop struggling in your network marketing career by taking action now.
